Spritz Cookies

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Heat oven to 400 degrees F. In large bowl, combine powdered sugar, butter, vanilla and egg; beat until light and fluffy. Add flour and salt; mix well. Fit cookie press with desired template. Fill cookie press; press dough onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake at 400 degrees F. for 5 to 7 minutes or until edges are firm but not brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Cool 15 minutes or until completely cooled.

Yield: 5 dozen cookies

Variations:

Chocolate Sprintz Cookies – Prepare dough as direct in recipe, adding 2 oz melted unsweetened chocolate to powdered sugar mixture.

Eggnog Spritz Cookies – Prepare dough as directed in recipe, substituting 1 teaspoon rum extract for vanilla and adding 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg with dry ingredients.

Orange Spritz Cookies – Prepare dough as directed in recipe, adding 1 tablespoon grated orange peel with dry ingredients.
